The City of Amherst is considering a project to install an asphalt recreational trail along the west side of North Main Street from West Martin Street north to Sunrise, approximately 2,335 feet, to connect to the existing asphalt trail within the Lorain County Metroparks Beaver Creek Reservation.

As part of the project a trail would also be installed along the south side of Sipple Avenue from North Main Street east to the Amherst Exempted School Property approximately 1,285 feet. In general, the trail is proposed to be ten feet in width however some sections would be narrowed to eight feet in width to adjust for utilities. The trail would be installed within the public right of way and maintained by the City. Minor drive apron modifications would be incorporated by the project.  The City has an opportunity to provide an important pedestrian connection between the Lorain County Metroparks, The Amherst Exempted School District and the Historic Downtown Business District.

The City is looking for public feedback on the proposed project. Please send in your comments or questions to Click here to view the exhibit for the proposed connector
