The City of Amherst will conduct a one-hour public meeting on Monday, December 10, 2018 to gather public input in order to update Amherst’s Safe Routes to School Travel Plan. The public meeting will be held at City Hall, 206 S. Main Street, Amherst, Ohio beginning at 6:00 pm (to conclude by 7:00 pm for the regularly scheduled City Council meeting). The original School Travel Plan (STP) was developed in 2010 and is currently being updated.

A STP is a written document that outlines a community’s intentions for enabling students to engage in active transportation (i.e. walking or bicycling) as they travel to and from school. The development and approval of a STP is the first step that a community takes to pursue Safe Routes to School funding that can include securement of federal monies for infrastructure and non-infrastructure projects and improvements.

Recommendations for the Draft STP will be presented at this public meeting and members of the community are encouraged to attend and provide comments or have questions answered. The Draft STP will be posted on the City of Amherst’s website http://www.amherstohio.org/. For further information regarding the public meeting, the Draft STP update, or to submit a public comment please contact Survey@AdaptiveEng.com. Public Comments will be accepted through December 23, 2018.
